Gene therapy has improved the deterioration of vision by a rare hereditary disease, the liver, congenital amaurosis, or LCA, the patient is blind over the age of 40.
Twelve patients, including Corey, now have better visibility, doctors at a joint meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology in San Francisco on Saturday.
"The 12 patients who received gene therapy, one eye showed an improvement in retinal function," said Dr. Katherine above, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and his colleagues together in a report in time be published in the medical journal The Lancet.

ReplyDeleteGiving a child a treatment leads to a better quality of life has nothing to do with being "anti-tun Christian." This is medical technology, do more for this child that "God".
If "God" talk is real, the blind anyway do it again. WOW talk about extremists.
It is a good thing that Corey has his eyes and his loving parents are very happy. Research in other areas of the part is for me one day in importance.
